uk travel advice weather

Travelling to uk need advice??
i am form australia and travelling to the uk start of next year and will be there for a year. I will be 18 at the time and might be going with a friend. Whats the uk like and what some basic facts on jobs, the people, places to visit, weather etc and anything id have to know about the country. Im really interested in the idea of staying longer or maybe even living there one day if i liked it enough. Any advice would be appreciated.
