A question about journalism/photography?

I enjoy writing and i was wondering whats it like in the world of journalism?? I dont want to be a random blogger or w/e. So is this a good career to go into in the next couple of years or will journalism just be a waste in the future with all these bloggers. Also whats a good starter camera to get. You know the black ones with the adjustable lenses on the front that have the neckstrap. Whats a good one to start off with and gradually work my way up. Im looking to go into a photography/journalism field for college. Hopefully. And i also like to travel alone so i can devote my time. Actually thinking about it i would love to freelance write. Like travel around and write.

For a camera, and what you are describing is an SLR, Which is an abbreviation for a Single Lens Reflex camera (that means that you look right through the lense when you look through the viewfinder.

I’m extremely partial to my Nikons. Nikon, inc. takes care of their customers like no other company. If you own an old F body Nikon (the oldest professional camera they ever made), and you buy a lens that will fit your new D3 (the newest, highest rated professional camera they make, now), the lens will fit both cameras. No other company can say that. You can have confidence that the camera you buy today, and any lenses you get to go on it, will be interchangeable with anything you buy ten, twenty, even fifty years from now. (now watch, they’ll go retool everything next month, just to make a liar out of me:))

I have a digital D70 s, and I love it! But for me, any camera that allows me to go fully manual is good enough…none of the other features get used very much. Whatever you get should have a pretty high pixel ability (the best I know has 10 megs, but I’ll bet the newest ones are up above 12 – 7 is plenty for me, but you just never know). Once you settle on a pixel value, you need to get a camera you can have control over…get something with full manual mode. Even if you never decide to go into journalism, you could use the camera to do professional photography. If you aren’t in journalism, portraiture is where the money is.
