best travel deals 2010
eurail passes in 2010?
i’m planning on going to europe next year for at least 6 months and want to travel from england to france, spain, portugal, italy, switzerland, germany, netherlands, belgium, czech republic and possibly 1 or 2 more.
i need to know what the cheapest way to travel will be. i gather the eurail will be, just need to know the best deal to look for and the possible cost
Eurail is not necessarily the cheapest way to go. It’s often cheaper to get individual tickets in advance and take advantage of available discounts. Right now, it would be difficult to predict what the price comparisons would be for 2010. However, to do the comparison, you need at least a rough itinerary. If you get the pass, with all the countries you’re thinking of, you would need a global pass. The UK is not included though. Be aware, that there are additional reservations / supplemental fees to pay when using a Eurail pass on the fast trains or night trains. http://www.eurail.com/eurail-reservations-supplements-domestic , http://www.eurail.com/eurail-reservations-supplements-international-trains , http://www.eurail.com/eurail-reservations-night-trains . The pass is most advantageous if you’re doing a lot of travel using the slower regional trains and are not able to buy tickets in advance.
You also need to be aware that even if you don’t need a visa for a short term visit as a tourist, you will need a visa for the trip you’re planning. You may allowed to visit for up to 90 days in any six month period without a visa (depending on where you’re from). However, that doesn’t apply just to single countries, but to the entire Schengen area. Unless you spend 3 months in the UK and the rest in the other countries, you need a visa.
