Daniel DeYoung is a representational landscape painter, preferring to work en plein air. His subjects are most often located near his home in Kentucky, in the American West, and the Canadian maritime.

Daniel’s paintings usually occur in National, State or Provincial Parks. In Kentucky, he prefers to paint Appalachia, having formed a deep personal connection with the people and the forests. In the deserts and mountains of the American West and Canadian wilderness, he pursues a light unfettered by atmosphere. His vivid colors reflect the pure joy and renaissance that he experiences when alone in the wild. To capture the essence of his subjects, Daniel travels extensively, living at each location he paints for four to five days.

Daniel graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts degree and from Frostburg State University in Maryland, earning a Master of Science degree, serving as a Captain in the Army, and later Vice President of Bravura Architects. Daniel started painting full time in 2005, winning first place in the Kentucky State Fair for Representational Painting, and the third place for Miniature Painting. His work can now be seen at galleries in Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort and LaGrange Kentucky.

Currently an art instructor with “Young Rembrandts”, Daniel teaches elementary drawing programs in Louisville and Oldham County Kentucky and provides private painting instruction.
